A History of our Neighborhood Logo

In March 2009, just about a year and a half from the inception of the idea, we have neighborhood association street signs, eight of them.  They are located at main entrances to our neighborhood. and we are very please with them.  Now we are offical.  Now we are visible.  Now all residents have a neighborhood idenity.

A year ago we applied for a city mini-grant to get neighborhood signs put up around the HIllwood neighborhood.  The project recieved a lot of talk and then languished.  When we realized that the mini-grant process was going to expire we hustled around and asked everyone with even a germ of an idea to present their art.  Several people offered ideas and we went forward from there.  Art was chosen and refined a bit and sent to the city.  We are happy to report that in the next few months we will have street signs installed.  Watch for them.  We will also receive a banner and sandwich board signs with the new logo on them.  Another piece of art was chosen to be a logo for letter-head and cards.  Our thanks go to all who assisted.  Time was spent with art ideas, looking at the older logo, photographing other neighborhood logos and grant writing. Now here it is! (8/22/08)

This is the sign art the art.  Watch for it on street corner near you! The art below will be used on printed materials.

In 1999 the association held a contest among Einstein Middle School art students.  They were looking for a logo and a flag design.  The contest was won by eighth grader Kirstin Barger.  The plan was to use the design on metal signs at the main entrances to Hillwood.  Unfortunately the effort lost momentun and the signs were never acquired.

You may have seen this sign however, on the side of City Vacuum and Sewing at the corner of Aurara Ave. N. and 200th.  George Daher, owner of City Vacuum and then co-chair of the Association, painted it there nearly 10 years ago and it still graces our neighborhod.

This design would still make a great flag.  Does anyone out there sew?  It would be a wonderful contribution to our neighborhood if someone could make us a flag to show off at various events.

We are in the process once again of getting a mini-grant to add signs to our street entrances, however this logo does not suit the requirements for those signs.  We would welcome any suggestions or designs you might have.

In the meantime, we will happily use Kirstin's design here and a few other places.

Here is the sign as it appears on City Vacuum and Kristin's original design.
