Hillwood Neighborhood Survey from Survey Monkey

Thank you for weighing in what's important to you in our neighborhood survey! Congradulations to the first 5 respondees who recieved a gift certificate to HOT BOX YOGA on Aurora.  And a big thanks to HOT BOX for making that possible.

This has been an enlightening exercise and we promise to consider your thoughtful responses. In the interest of transparancy, we have included all the results on this page.

Overall, we discovered that there is an overwhelming interest in more e-mail communication and less meetings. Additionally, there is a strong interest in neighborhood clean-ups. As it happens, we have started a dialogue with Cleanscapes about that very activity! We will let you know more about our plans after the lst of the year.

  1. I am limited because of sciatica. I cannot walk much or do physical work.

  2. Curbside enhancement projects for business' and homeowners. Walking the streets as a group or manning a station and offering my professional services to the community for free.

  3. As a long-time jogger and walker in our neighborhood, I would value an ongoing litter pick-up project that goes beyond the schoolyard and path. I'm not sure how this would be structured. Maybe twice a year? We'd need gloves and bags, and perhaps a reward at the end...coffee & cookies, juice for kids, and recycling containers for recyclables.

  4. micro brew fest ;)

  5. How about a neighborhood street "litter clean up" to get people outdoors building community, pride and a cleaner place to live?

3. I would consider volunteering at Hillwood Community Network to:

  1. Help organize a community earthquake awareness and neighborhood support team

  2. I'd like to just start by knowing about events and occasionally dropping in.

  3. On #2 above I suggested a broader litter pick-up effort. I would be willing to organize and lead this if there's interest.

  4. I would like to help in a very specific way. I can't often make it to meetings, but would be willing to provide behind-the-scenes support, such as developing written materials, designing surveys, and other things I can do on my own time (wee hours). I am not in Shoreline during business hours M-F, so it's hard for me to take on anything that involves running around doing errands for fundraisers. I support what you are up to!

  5. I will organize the Night Out Against Crime event which will occur on 6th NW, between NW 197th and NW 200th.

  6. Have wanted to get more involved - and may have more opportunity in 6 months or so.

  7. No for now...yes/maybe when the kids are a bit more independent...2 & 4 makes for crazy busy times.

  8. My schedule is to funky to commit to something at this time. I hate to say I will do something and then cancel

  9. Contribute to neighborhood news with articles and/or photos

  1. The HCN could assist CERT with Neighborhood mapping to prepare for emergencies.

  2. Comment: I think the city of Shoreline does a great job publicizing city events, so I don't see that the HCN would need to take that on, too, unless there's enough volunteer energy & bodies to do that.

  3. recent break-ins around 5th Ave NW and 201st - perhaps a discussion at a Hillwood meeting about how we can all take preventive measures - keep lights on at night, lock doors and cars, know your neighbors, etc. and have the police dept come

  4. It would be great if we could create a way to support those who need help with minor repairs, maintenance and/or clean-up

  3. Would CRISTA host your meetings since it is centrally located?

  4. As Facility Manager at Calvin Presbyterian Church the organization is always welcome to meet at the church. It has met here before and it seemed to fit well.

  5. Public library

  6. City Hall, other city buildings or fire station/water district.

  7. but NOT the church off of Aurora, across from the Y/Echo Lake Tavern, behind the car dealership.

  8. rec center?

  9. without spending money on the rental of the room if possible

  10. Why not private homes, if the group is not too large. It is more personal and when you have been to someone's home, you feel like you know them.

  11. We could meet in schools if they didn't charge

7. Here are some other activities you might be interested in pursuing through the Hillwood Community Network. Please let us know your interest level of each.

In a perfect world would like to see Hillwood Community Network

7

  1. have more activities, with more attendees.

  2. Stand at every intersection and hand out $100 bills while welcoming people to the neighborhood. But seriously, I don't want to see the Network overreach. Pick what will be done and stick to doing it well. I would rather see one project/ task done well than a bunch of poorly organized events or community tasks.

  3. ...continue growing realistically! Thanks for the postcard campaign to advertise this survey.

  4. regular potlucks to facilitate neighborhood contacts and networking Keep up the good work!

  5. Street/sidewalk bike and walk safety. Bike/Walking routes and lanes.

  6. have a "virtual" presence that announces opportunity to engage with others in my neighborhood

  7. Would serve as a clearinghouse so neighbors could help each other by sharing skills, talents, caring and tools.
