On Thursday night the planning commissioners approved the Crista master development plan but did add some amendments.
These should be available soon onthe city website: www.shorlelinewa.gov Click departments and then planning services then planning commission, then Crista Master plan.
Next it goes before the City of Shoreline city council. Probably the first meeting will be city staff giving an informative presentation about the project and the mitigations and amendments.
Then at another business meeting they will either accept as presented, modify and make amendments or send it back to be redone.
There will not be any opportunity for citizen input.
Later on when permits are filed for each building, there will be an opportunity for public comment on each one.

The commissioners spent another long evening discussing the master plan on 2/18/10 and have continued it again to 3/18/10

There have been many comments sent to the Planning Office and the public hearing Planning Commissioners meeting Jan. 21 was attended by more than 80 neighbors, an attendance record for them. There were many public comments and the Commissioners had lots of questions that they asked Crista to clairify. They plainly had read the public comments they had received and acted on them. The meeting went on until 11 pm with most people sitting there until the end. The public participation definately had an impact. Because there were unfinished questions and it had gotton so late, the meeting has been continued to Feb. 18, 7 pm at City Hall. No more comments will be allowed unless there is new information to be presented. That part of the meeting has been completed. Having many people there will still have a impact and influence the Commissioners in our favor. There have already been imitigations put in place that are a direct result of citizen input. We can make a difference.

Here is another opportunity for you to make a difference.
Posted around the Crista campus and received in the mail by neighbors is another notice from the city regarding the Crista Master Development Plan Process. This may be the only opportunity to comment on the environmental impacts of this proposal. The public comment period ends April 23rd. You may fax, mail or email comments to City of Shoreline, Attn. Steven Szafran, 17500 Midvale Ave. N., Shoreline, WA 98133 or emailed to

In addition, there will be Planning Commission Open Record Hearings on this matter May 7, 2009 and again on June 4, 2009 at 7:00 pm in the Mt. Rainier Room at the Shoreline Conference Center. The Open Record Hearing is an opportunity for the Planning Commission and public to study the Master Development Plan Permit and make comments onf the Proposeal. At the close of the Open Record Hearings, the Planning Commission makes a formal recommendaton to the City Council.
Comments and warm bodies at these meetings are important! Please participate and state your views and concerns.

Neighbors living within 1500 feet of Crista received a letter inviting them to a Early Community Meeting, Thursday, January 29, from 6:30 to 8 pm in Kings Chapel on the Crista Campus to review their Master Development Plan. All neighbors are welcome no matter where they live. These letters will be new to some of you as new city ordinances have trippled the required notification area. This meeting is a prelimary meeting required by the city to let neighbors have input on the planning process before the plans are approved. What you say there can make a difference. Don't miss this meeting.

We would like to present you with information about the Crista Master Plan permitting process. There has already been one planning commission meeting and will be another about July 15, before this goes before the city council for a final decision. If the city officials hear from us, they will consider all comments. If they don't hear from us, they will assume no one minds and go ahead without looking closely. Speak up!
We urge you to learn about the master plan and submit comments to the planning commission regarding the impact of this growth on the Hillwood neighborhood. There will be changes in the traffic, parking and appearance of our neighborhood. They are proposing growth of their schools and residence programs including two-story buildings on our streets, and the removal of hundreds of mature trees.
While this is a long term plan covering the next ten to fifteen years, now is the time to have our voices heard. They will have to go through the permitting process for each building, but this is the time to comment on the overall plan and let both the city and Crista know our needs and feelings.
Do keep in mind that we still have time to change some of this and get mitigation, such as sidewalks and better traffic management.
There is no question that some of Crista buildings are ageing and in need of repair or replacement, but the property is just about at its full capacity for development. As neighbors we need to voice our concerns and vote for caution in overdeveloping our residential streets. Some of the letters that have already been submitted are attached to the Planning Commission Study Sessionagenda which is listed below.

Be proactive and submit comments of your own. Now is the right time.
